People Without Places

If it feels like there are more people who are homeless than ever before, it’s because there are. Many existing attempts to tackle homelessness are focused on temporary solutions, and not effective at solving the issue at its core.

Currently in New York City alone, each night over 67,000 people rely on the main shelter system, and this number continues to rise sharply as it has over the past decade. This number does not include the unsheltered, nor does this number include those who rely on the various other shelter systems that exist. The current response is to continuously move people around from shelter to shelter or hotel to hotel, without providing the means to escape the vicious cycle. It’s bad for local residents, it’s bad for local businesses, and above all, it’s bad for the people without a place to call home.

Considering today’s mammoth numbers, simple math dictates that it’s not feasible to accommodate an entire city’s homeless population with shelters, hotels, or the government housing that’s available – before even beginning to consider the financial constraints. We believe the issue runs deeper than finding a bed to lay your head for the night… for what does tomorrow bring?

Homelessness is a deeply complicated issue with so many contributing factors, which is why People Without Places was created.

Ending Homelessness. For Good.

Comprehensive support for the homeless population

Homelessness affects multiple aspects of an individual’s life including mental health, hygiene, administration, and drug abuse. To support the homeless population, a comprehensive approach is needed that addresses these interconnected challenges. This includes providing mental health services, access to basic hygiene resources, administrative support, and substance abuse treatment. By addressing these issues, individuals experiencing homelessness can overcome obstacles and achieve stable, fulfilling lives.
